The eagle is the badge of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, pre-1918.

That item looks Masonic to me.

It certainly isn't Nazi, or anything to do with the Foreign Service.

Hello Robin, thank you for your opion it is much appreciated and yes I would agree with you 100% on what you said and although it is perhaps not Third reich period period I am still very pleased with the purchase as it is of such high quality die stamping and has an excellent patina. I just love the design of it.

I was thinking Austrian as well. Vienna was a centre for pre-war occult and Masonic activity. I see a couple of Masonic symbols - looks like a skull and crossbones at 3 o'clock and a trowel or plumb bob at 9 - the rest are mostly astrology / alchemy. Can't narrow it down more than that.

Hello Stephen, thank you for the information and yes it sounds like you have hit the nail right on the head, as it was bought originally from Austria, Vienna. Not too sure of it's commercial value though, although I think on this occassion I will probably keep this particular Badge as from my perspective think it would be a difficult one to find again if I let it go.
