    What is this Kyffhauserbund badge?

What is this, a badge for 25 year membership in the Kyffhauserbund? Back is marked GES. GESCH. with a 1 above, in relief. Please take a look at the back and pin below; is this the correct type of hinge, pin and catch for this badge? Pretty unusual catch.

    Thanks for any info,
    Greg

Hinge, pin and catch. The catch functions almost like a safety pin's catch.

Greg, Not to worry your badge is correct in all respects. Nice example.

          James,
Thanks! Is this actually a pin for 25 year membership in the Kyffhauserbund? I couldn't find it in any references.

          Thanks,
          Greg

Greg, Yes it is a 25 year pin for the Kyffhäuserbund if you have a copy of Heering & Hüsken's book (Handbuch der Abzeichen deutscher Organisationen 1871-1945) you'll find it there. Also Kai Winkler has one for sale at his website

This enameled badge is covered in great depth in J.R. Cone's book: "One People, One Reich, Enameled Organizational Badges of Germany". The badge shown is the Type 2. The 1st type was the same except that instead of the swastika flag, the red-white-black tri-color flag was used. Year designators were '25' , '40' & '50', & also a membership badge (or stickpin) without the wreath & no designator. All examples existed also in stickpin form. The monument itself is in Leipzig, - the Völkerschlachtdenkmal, the "Monument to the Battle of the Nations".

Greg, I took a look at my example last night and it looks exactly the same as yours.

                    Richard,
Thanks! I didn't think those badges had been faked, but to me it was an unusual catch arrangement since I have not had one before.

Greg, You'll also find this attaching method used on the majority of the Rotes Kreuz brooches here's two examples.

                        Hello,

I too see nothing wrong with this style pin and catch-heres an example i have -this cased pin goes with my non-portable table medal for 25 years loyal service to the Rhein-Pfalz economy-

                            James, Yancy -

Thanks! I was just asking because I've never had anything with an arrangement like that before, and haven't seen the back of one of these 25 year Kyffhauserbund before.

                            Thanks again,
                            Greg
