The sting in your wallet goes away after a while, and 2 years from now, you will quite happy with the price you paid for it.

    BTW-
what is the going rate of the 30mm badge?

For me a good price for such a badge would be about 1000$ but everyone pays what the piece is worth to him. I sometimes pay high prices too if its a rare item and something i was looking for a long time. And after some years of collecting I became more like someone who buys from known dealers like weitze and so on cause there I can be sure that the piece I buy is original and this safety rises the price a bit, but it´s worth it! As I said, better safe then sorry!

If one realy wants a GPB and is ready to pay 1500$ for a small one, better safe some money and buy a matching set. A set goes here in europe for about 2400€. Weitze for example is offering a small Fuess badge which has a slightly damaged needle for 585€ thats about 790$ I would rather buy this one or get a set then paying the double price for the small deschler badge. But before you buy one, check if you can find out the person to which the badge belonged, not all numbers are known and knowing the owner of the badge is a big + for the price I would say!

But anyways, buy the badge which you like the most and then you will get happy with it, no matter of the price! You will love these GPB and get addicted to them once you hold your first in your hands

GPB sets are pretty hard to find in good condition and prices here in the States start about 3500.00 and go way up depending on condition and being named.

Well, just when I think I've heard all the information I need to know to make a decision, someone adds something else important I hadn't even considered yet. For example, possibly going ahead and taking the plunge for a matching set and/or numbers that are traceable to the actual member. That's a great new idea for consideration!!! My initial, simple question has provided so much more food for thought than I ever expected. You guys are great!!!

It's also good to hear from someone else (Theo) adding his similar thoughts on the all powerful, I-just-want-it-right-now-no-matter-what impulse. Yes, impulse is the arch enemy of patience!!! But, as Jerry added, even the impulse can later be thanked in the future, when the price is even higher.

Thanks again for all the continued ideas,

          Chris

P.S. I've just hatched a few more small questions. Just how common is it for the Golden Party Badges to be traceable to the actual owners? Also, I notice it is quite common for these badges to be missing their pins. So, what would be your preference here: A matching set with the pin on one or both missing or damaged, or a nonmatching set with both pins intact (assuming the badge conditions are otherwise comparable--minus the pin issues)? Just curious from a preference and value point of view.

Matching with little damage is better then not matching without damage cause a non matching set is not a set and you could buy two badges and just put them together. If you have the chance to get a matching set, get it!

As to find out the owner of the badge, someone has posted a link somedays ago to a dealer in the uk who has a lot of information and a list of the numbers which he is able to tell a name to on his website, unfortunately i dont remember the name of the dealer but someone else here will!

In general if you buying a matching set and you know the original owner, the condition of the badges is not that extremely important but rather an extra bonus (and price I'm afraid). If you by them as single, not matching pieces, quality must be as high as possible. That's my opinion. At the moment a have one 30mm Deschler with military style pin, and one 24mm Deschler; both in NM condition. Now I will go for the 24 mm Jos Feuss. Finnaly I hope to find a matching set. (And than I have to look out for a better paying job ) Especially If you know that the GPB is not the only addiction which I suffer from!

              Regards, Theo

Well if you ask me John Pepera is one of the leading experts on GPBs. If you purchase a badge from him you won't be sorry! I heard that aprox. 50% of badges are traceable.

First, many thanks Cysior for the link to the GREAT site on "Authenication of the Golden Party Badge." That certainly answers every question about the badges I could have ever imagined, and then some! I'd say that's about as good as a book on the subject.

Once again, I must say that I'm really glad that I posted the thread and asked about these badges. It seems that the more patience I've had waiting for replies, the more I've learned, and it just continues. I've even just seen options on the thread which look like a Golden Party Badge buffet of prime choices. Thanks for that too, John!!! That sure is one seriously special selection you have there!!!

Many thanks again to everyone, for the ongoing GREAT advice and information,

                      Sincerely again,

                      Chris

                                An Update!

Just as an update, I wanted to let everyone know that I did decide to purchase the Golden Party Badge which was discussed in this thread. It's on its way to me, as I type this. Thanks again to everyone for helping me authenticate it, and have the confidence to go ahead and get it, as a genuine badge. Since I admit I'm still learning some of the specifics about these badges, without your help, I'd still be more than a little confused about it.

Also, I'm glad the thread made me aware of Mr. Pepera and his large selection of these badges, since I am not finished with my collecting.

                                Thanks again to all,

                                Chris
