    SS Tinnie

    Hi

I have this SS tinnie and wonder if any members can tell me more about it.

I think it is genuine, though I have not seen one like it before (perhaps I have not tried too hard).

If it is a fake or fantasy item, the fakers seem to have done a pretty good job. Maybe someone can comment as to its authenticity

    Thanking you in advance

    Raymond

            Hi

Thanks to Mike and Tomas for their comments.

I thought it would be a good idea to write the makers mark for other forum members - Carl Peter - Schmalkalden. Clearly a local maker to supply the local event with the tinnies.

The tinnie was given to me by a friend and collector who most generously put it in a parcel with some items that I had bought from him.

            Thanks again

            Raymond

                          Hi Raymond,

Craig has one for sale, please see here. Its been there for some time .

                          http://www.craiggottlieb.com/data/in...rman+Militaria

                          Heres hes description of it.
"....This badge would have been sold to SS members who attended and took part in an SS Sporting/Marksmanship competition held by the 57. SS Standarte, based in the city of Schmalkalden in the state of Thüringen..."

IMO the price is a bit steep for me, else i would have bought it as it goes along with this tinnie i just got

BTW:- If you ever want to sell it, please give me a ring

                          Cheers,
                          Ibrahim,

                            SS Tinnie

I`ve had some rare SS tinnies in my collection and I do`nt believe I`ve ever paid more than $250.00 for even the rarest. This tinnie is fairly common as far as SS tinnies go. I just recently bought one on estand for $165.00 and another from a different site for $155.00. The several others I`ve seen are all going or have sold at around this price.

                              Hi

                              Great detective work, Ibrahim.

To be honest, I have never asked about the price and I am not really interested in what they go for as it was a gift from a collecting friend and so it will stay with me. I am just glad that I have the piece.

It does seem a scarce one given the number of people who have responded and if I saw the same one for sub $200 then I would buy it without a second thought. I have never collected SS tinnies, but if the prices are sub-$200, then I may well start as they are pretty cool items.

                              Thanks for all your help

                              Raymond
