Hello Ron, it is indeed a German Young Horseman's badge (Deutsches Jugend-Reiterabzeichen) these Badges were designed by W. Heitinger and were awarded to boys under the age of 17 who demonstrated a proficency in horsemanship. from 1932 to 1945 over eleven thosand had been awarded. hope this information helps

Thanks Martin. I thought I remembered identifying it many years ago as such; however, about 20 years ago I had a house fire which resulted in many of my books being destroyed (a lot by water damage). 11,000 + would seem to make it a bit on the scarce side, although I would say not rare. I tried to search for some for sale to try to find a value, but no luck so far. Doesn't really matter though as I do not intend to sell it at this point......had it since the mid-70's.

Hello Ron, sorry to hear you lost such invaluable reference books. Perhaps via the German & USA ebay you could find replacements.
yes, indeed you are quite correct these Badges are becoming scarce (most offered on the market are the 1957 versions) As is typical on your example (and with most originals) most of the finish has been absorbed in to the metal. Production started in 1932 and the design is virtually identical to the Deutsches Reiterabzeichen (German Horseman's Badge) except the Jugend (Youth) version is round and the German Horsemans's Badge is oval. I believe the 32 to the reverse of your Badge indicates manufacture by Gustav Ramminminger (nh. Hans Kuhnle) Pforzheim

          34 not 32

Hello Ron, sorry my mistake it is a 34 to the reverse which I believe indicates the Badge is a karl Wurster (Markneukirchen) manufacturer
