Can't find it. Did you manage to save a picture of the badge?

Based on past threads heavily discussing this particular version of the award, this has been deemed very controversial at best with most leaning to it being a reproduction.

            Thanks Stuart.
You're right. Badge is still there. I missed it.
I have seen so many of these badges on German shows. I can't believe Detlev fell for this one as he has sold in the past the rare original ones.

Sorry, been away a few days.

I wouldn't want it in my collection. I too am surprised at Detlev, he should know better with these.

              Cheers

This forum is a strange place sometimes... The last time this version of the 1944 turned up here, (Richard's own badge if I'm not mistaken) not one single negative comment was made about it although the thread was up for a sufficient amount of time. I didn't understand this and asked on numerous occasions within the thread why the members that routinely condemned this badge were not commenting on Richard's. My requests led initially to the mysterious deletion of all pictures of Richard's badge and then secondly to the complete deletion of the thread. Driven by frustration I restarted the thread and was almost instantly suspended from WAF. Top stuff...

What I was trying to achieve before my suspension was some consistency on the part of those who usually condemn this version of the badge. If a badge or any other item is bad then it should always be bad unless new information comes to light. I now await my renewed suspension...

My profuse apologies to the Richard in this thread if he is not the Richard who posted the badge in the now deleted thread. I can't check as the thread no longer exists.

Hi Stu, I used to have one of these badges which I later replaced with the accepted version. I also got the bad one from a big name german dealer who at the time was adamant that the badge was good. He made a good (verbal) case for it but I ultimately went with the opinion here on WAF. I'd be very interested in hearing what Herr Niemann says. He may just be trying to shift the badge based on his good reputation but then again he may have access to some evidence. Could be interesting but I suspect not. I'm sure that the experts here would by now have found that evidence if it existed.

I have a 1944 Gauseiger from the same maker that I bought in 1983. There are some minor differences from this one. Is this why people are saying its fake? Or are people saying that all of them are fake?

                          Hi Paul,
The Gausieger 1944 by Brehmer definitely existed but it is very difficult to find an original one.
The one as shown by Detlev is IMO not an original badge and is encountered very often for sale on militaria shows.
The original badge differences only slightly with the copy but on pictures enough to recognise a copy and the original.
Much clearer becomes it when holding the badges in your hand.
