I don't know much about these but I think this is a rare award and I would expect a better finish all round. Also, shouldn't it be marked or bear a serial number? This is just a simple opinion and I am sure others will have more to say.

Dr Fritz Todt Award

The badge looks 100% original and textbook.This is of course not the award version which were made of Aluminium and therefore very lightweight. They were also marked 8.2.44 plus the serial number and had the title ""Dr-Ing Fritz Todt Preis" on the obverse. Both badges were made by Godet.

Many recent fakes of these now being sold at auction!

I was very pleased to hear this as I have had it in my collection as "could be original".
I have all the time thougth it could be original as the quality is very good.
The badge is quite heavy - 63 gram. It is not magnetic.
Is it the steel version then ?

Hi Derek,

I'm over at my flat in Germany at the moment and will compare against mine next week when I'm back home. I have Gold, Silver and Black versions- the last two being the award type. Yours looks like a black version to me and should be made of zinc.

Thats a difficult one. The front looks great and the reverse setup is correct for an original type b example. The base metal worries me a little though, it doesn't look like a zinc badge. Genuine badges have a more matte finish and the reverse has noticeable striations, the marks on your badge look more like file marks. Also I have never seen an actual head to the hinge pin on an original example. I am tending towards a high quality copy at the minute.

That was my reaction too. I like to see that finely "milled" reverse, which is usually considered a signal characteristic on these. Compared to a striated/milled example, this one is kind of rough quality.

Here's a silver one to compare to. Hope the horizontal pattern shows up on everybody's monitor.

That badge you have shown in Silver with the "grained" reverse as Forman calls it are usually quite heavy and look to have been made of buntmetal. My gold version weighs 55.8g, how much does your example weigh?

As far as the badge Derek has posted is concerned, I too worry about the head to the pin on the hinge. Most of these badges were made in zinc and weigh approx 33g and yet Derek's weighs 65g and my "grained" version 55g, hence my interest in the weight of Verkuilen Ager's badge in silver.
