Mother's Cross (short questions)

Hello, a few quick questions:

Was only the gold mothers cross awarded in a box? Were silver or bronze awarded in a box, or packet only?

And, why December 16, 1938 stamped on the back? Is that mothers day in Germany?

Yes as far as I know only the Gold version came in a case.
That date is when the medal was instituted.
For info, bronze for up to 5 kids, silver for 7 and gold for more.

I always thought December 16 was Hitler's mother's birthday, but a look at my references say Klara was born on Dec. 8th.
