Altho I have 35+ years experience as a collector I am no expert and I do not really like to give an opinion based solely on photographs.Hence in my initial post I did not comment on the originality of the items, merely an opinion on their likely price here in England.

Anyway, a couple of things immediately cause concern. The smaller badge is supposely the Fuess (of Munich) type and the pin plate should carry this maker mark. I am not keen on the leaves either.

The reverse lettering on the larger (supposedly Deschler made badge) appears badly formed and is not to my liking either. But there are other things too - - nevertheless I would like to see them both in hand - - - if they be copies - and my feeling and the general consus too - - is that they are - - then they are well made examples - and I have never seen a matched pair of copies until now !!

I am sure there will be other contributions on this topic.

The reason i am asking is because, that there was Neuman expert conclusion, that item is original.

        Hi Helmet,
The large badge has a pronounced ridge in the centre of the leaves, no detail under the enameling, poor enameling, incorrect lettering style, wrong style Ges Gesch marking, etc. etc.

The small badge has overlapping leaves, gap at the top of the leaves, wrong lettering, etc. etc.

Also, the impressed number on both badges appears to have the wrong style font. It is close but not like the originals as it is too shallow as well.

        Cheers,
        Brett

Brett is right about these badges. Some of the things that stand out are the poor, dark red enamel to the large badge. It should be like red glass, with elongated dots visible underneath. The gold finish doesn't look like mercurial gilding found on originals. The letters are not right either, especially the "S", and are generally too small and too widely spaced. The numbers on back of the large badge are not struck properly.

The Fuess badge looks like a corrected version of the new fakes. I think I can see traces of lines over the laurel leaves on the front. The Lettering is wrong for these badges, which should be less even. The "I" should look like a sharp wedge, almost pointed at the bottom. On the back the numbers should also be struck deeper and the pinplate is wrong, not having a maker name. Some could argue that it is a replacement, but I see no evidence that it has been replaced.

I should also point out that there are fake Detlev certificates of authenticity circulating. You could post it here or better yet send one to him and he'll tell you if it is one of his.
