    tinnie book

I'm looking for one good book on tinnies. I did a search on this site and found a recommendation for a price guide book that sounded pretty good but the link does not work.
if you could only have one book on tinnies which one would it be?
can you also direct me to where I might find it.
    thanks jim

As there are literally tens of thousands of tinnies, there really isn't a single volume that would suffice. Manion's actually put out a series of 4 booklets that did picture most of the ones a collector would encounter in a lifetime. The series started where Manions was still known as the Foxhole. I believe all are out of print but can, on occasion, be found on ebay.

Reinhard Tieste put out a 2 vol set on tinnies and this can be found by going on to www.addall.com
Go to the used and out of print book heading click on it then put his name in.

Manions has those 4 tinnie books up for auction now on their website.

What do you guys actually think of the 2-volume Tieste set in terms of its usefulness? I have got the set and I do not know what I expected to get to be honest...but I am somewhat disappointed as it is only a collection of photos of the tinnies really with no further info...;-(...Cheers, Torsten.

              Manions Books.

I picked up a set of the Manions books (4) from a forum member a couple of years ago for $80. They are obviously outdated as to prices but do have quite a bit of info in them. A good purchase if you are into tinnies.

                Thorsten,
Even though there is a wide variation of prices to most tinnies, the Tieste book is best used as a starting base price guide. Of course as with all collectables everthing factors into price. Until someone puts out a highly informative tinnie book, these are all we`ve got.

I find the Tieste books very useful for cataloguing my own collection, just use the same system as he does in the books. Although it is quite depressing to see all the Tinnies in the book, that I will probably never ever get my hands on

very true...the Tieste books are very interesting and very good of course to see the variety of tinnies out there...and they also make a good reference for catalogueing..

I don't know...I guess I was kind of hoping for some book that gives backgrounds to the events, etc...but then that would have to be a monumental set of books ... or maybe, that would be a great idea for a website for someone?? Important events in Third Reich history and items related to those events... Cheers, Torsten.

                      Books on Tinnies

I feel that the Tieste books are way better than Manion's books in ID and catalog ability. Nothing will ever be complete on this subject in my opinion, but they are the best at giving the collector a base for starting and showing him what is known to be out there as far as these collectibles go.
