      Alter Kaempfer Badge

In his book, Detlev Niemann refers to these zinc badges as being "Day Badges". My example is in hallmarked silver.

        Badge

Thanks Stan. So does this mean this badge gets a at if so, what might be the current value of this piece? Thanks again.

          Alter Kaempfer Badge

          Chris,

I really don't know if this badge is original as I've only ever been interested in the Silver version (I'll post a picture). Chris Ailsby shows a zinc example very similar to yours in his book. the Silver version must now be worth approx €5000 so I would imagine that the zinc one would be worth around €1500.

I think Stan has put it very well. The Gau badges made in Danzig were from one maker and in silver. The zink pieces, I say this there are those made of other metal as far as one can tell are those made in Germany. These are not a DAY BADGE, Mr D N some times get the Danzig material a little confused. the classic is the Danzig Einwohnerwehr. This could not possibly be a Free Korp Badge. The value is correct for the silver 5000 Euros, the Zink piece is a little low, I would sugest 1750.00 to 2000.00 would be about right.

I know it might be a bit on the "splitting hairs" side but an Original silver version sold recently (within the last 3 weeks) for 4600 Euro at Weitze.

Danziger, you are quite right, not spliting hairs. 4600. 00 Euros is in the broad band of the value 5000.00, stated. An estimate is but that, 10 % either way - thus a range of 4500.00 to 5500.00 is about the going price. The price for awards of Danzig have risen dramatically. The Danzig cross 2nd class is a case. The boxed ones are now in the region of $2500.00.

                      Hi warlord,

yes, I saw the boxed one you mentioned. A bit over the top IMHO. I thought one of the German sellers who sold a Danzig Cross 2nd class, boxed with field ribbon and Niemann expertiese for about US$ 1500 was already expensive but the US$2500 beats it. Amazing!

The Weitze "Alter Kaempfer" came from a former Danzig SA leader. There was a collection of items of that man all sold seperately. One was a Danzig Cross 1st class (unmarked) for around €2500, the book "Danzig, Deine SA" for €180, ribbons and an SA cap eagle. Could be someone bought the lot bit by bit as all pieces were sold within a few weeks.

                      Best,
                      Danziger

Much under appreciated material, when found - price sky rockets. A case is very desirable. Want one for the 1 st class? Citation 1st class? The market has changed.

Yes, it definitely has changed. Picked my first Danzig Cross 2nd class groundfind up for €200.00. In the same week I got my first pristine boxed 2nd class Danzig cross for €460.00. That was last year in August!

Now it's getting much more difficult (financially) for a dedicated Danzig collector.

Thought I might try to get a definitive yeah or nea on this badge. The dimensions are 44.01mm high by 36.28mm wide by 1.9mm thick. The Danzig shield is 9.49mm wide. The Swastika is 16.97mm by 17.11mm by (point under the 'T' to the point over the 'P') 23.73mm high.

I'm hoping someone might share the dimensions of their Alter Kampfer or more detail (if there is any) on the specs if any.

I've taken some more photos of Chris' badge. Looking forward to any more detail that can be had on this.
