    Silver & Gold Reichssportabzeichen DRA

    Hi all,

I got these badges during the week, nothing much, but are the first ones I have without the "Swaz". The silver one is not only higher but also wider, not much but you can notice, different makers dies, I guess.

Does anyone know why do they have the same serial number if there are different makers. I´ve seen another badge like these one with another serial number (35269) which I´ve seen on the III Reich types. I´m a bit confused.

I would appreciate very much any information about this.

    Thanks in advance,
    Adolph.

Hi Adolph. I also have a DRA in bronze marked H.WERNSTEIN / JENA-LOBSTEDT with the number 33918. Apparently it is neither a serial number nor a manufacturer's number. I too await enlightenment.

        Best, Gary

          Hi again Adolph.
I just searched the archives and found that these numbers represent something like a design patent, not an award serial number. If it had been a serial number (each badge being unique) the number would be stamped or engraved, not part of the die as these obviously are.

          Best,
          Gary

            Hi Gary,

Thanks for the information. I´ll keep my eyes open for anything to do with these type of badges. As you said "await enlightenment".

            Regards,
            Adolph.

              Hi,

"...it is neither a serial number nor a manufacturer's number..."

It is a protection-number for the design, temporary.

Enclosed is a picture with 3 badges from Wernstein, 2 are a DRA (awarded 1913-1914/1919-1934), one is a DRL (awarded 1935-1944).

I don't know, in which year Wernstein started the production of DRA badges, but it is later than 1920.

In the DRA-period the number changed from 33918 to 35269, and just the same number 35269 you can find on the DRL badge:

The protection for the sports badge under number 35269 changed from the DRA to the DRL design.

              Regards
              Uwe

sorry, I forgot to mention it, there is no Gold DRA, it is a Bronze badge.

                    Hi Uwe,

Thanks very much for clarifying all the doubts I had with this type of badges.
Great information you******180;re giving me with the code numbers and dates. It******180;s also good to know that I don******180;t need to look for the Gold type. Having a Bronce and Silver, having them all.

                    Best regards,
                    Adolph.

                      Hi Adolph,

"Having a Bronce and Silver, having them all."

No , there are three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold.

But two of your badges you posted here, are in Bronze, one is in Silver!

The problem is, that it is sometimes difficult, to say it is Bronze or it is in Gold:

The badge above is Bronze, as well as your two badges.

Down right is a Gold badge, definitely. It is gilded.

But down left I am not able to say, it is Bronze or Gold.
It looks more gold-coloured than the other, but I think, it is a Bronze badge, well polished.

                      Regards
                      Uwe

                        Hi Uwe,

                        Sorry my mistake.
I wrote "Silver & Gold", when I wanted to say Silver & Bronze. I confused with another thread I******180;ve posted on the Imperial section, "Silver & Gold cut out wound badges". I bought the badges as Silver and bronze.
That******180;s why I thought it was no gold class.

I didn******180;t realize of my mistake until you said so. Thanks for correcting me and thanks again for all the information you******180;ve provided me.

                        Best reagards,
                        Adolph.
