Badge Of Merit In The Aircraft Industry - Any Thoughts?

    Hi Everybody,

Me again - I've just purchased this stickpin (no case worse luck!). It's the 'Badge Of Merit In The Aircraft Industry' (acc. to Fuhrer And Fatherland - Political And Civil Awards), and looks to be in silver (for merit). I've tried researching it on the web but can find nothing else about it.

Does anyone know much about this. Does anyone else have one? Were many awarded? Are they quite common, or in fact unusual / rare?

    Thanks for your time.

    All the best,
    Toby.

      Treue-Werkabzeichen der Betriebsgemeinschaften der Luftfahrt

Awarded to aircraft industry workers for outstanding performance. Instituted in 1937 and awarded in two classes; silver, and gilt for exceptional workers. It came in stickpin version only, should be 18mm x 26mm and originally came in a triangular leatherette case. To find a case today would be very difficult.

There is also one with a wreath, but it is not known if this denotes another class, or is just a variant.

Sorry, I've no idea of relative scarcity but this is the first one I've seen in awhile.

Thanks to J D Cone for the info from his book "One People, One Reich, Enameled Organizational Badges of Germany"

"It came in stickpin version only"

Joke's on me. I found one for you on Helmut's Weitze's site, in a pin back version. $100.

By the price, I'd rate this as "scarce", but that's an unreliable way of gauging value.

By the way, he calls it "Treuewerk der Betriebsgemeinschaften der Luftwaffe".

          Hi Ralph,

Many thanks for the info. I tried searching on the web before posting in the forum but could find nothing, aside from a brief summary on Third Reich Factbook, so your info has been really helpful.

As for the case, I'm going to start willing one to come my way. I'll keep you informed!

          All the best,
          Toby.

Maybe the pinbacks are more scarce?

You're right, though. Prices are rising. Every time something is sold, it seems the next one along is higher. Check the rise in tinnie prices lately. Up 50% at least over last year. At least.

                    Hey Ralph,

You arent kidding about the prices riseing-it has made me think alot about how badly i want to keep collecting these things, its getting ridiculous-thats why i sold my SA tinnies-Im about to sell all my HJ tinnies-Im gonna narrow the tinnie collecting field to labor related organizations-RAD-DAF-NSBO etc and even with only collecting these tinnies Ive been shelling out some bucks lately also since the euro dollar went into effect ive been getting NO good deals from European dealers(remember the good old days when prices were in DM and they were worth .50cents to our dollar!)
