            Hello,
According to Angolia in his book "Political & Civil awards of the Third Reich" this plaque is for the donation of horses etc. According to the text the plaque is 137mm in size, black iron, and the inscription onf the back says " For Service in the Pre-Military training of Young German Riders. It was given to persons who donated horses, stables, parks, and other maaterial realated to the advancement of horsemanship. I have one of these items myself and for sure it is a heavy piece, nicely done.

it seems all of the books for collecting third reich items are difficult to find, out of print, over-priced, or all three.

I've been trying to find a copy of Axis Pistols by Jan Stills and one dealer wants 2,000 dollars for it. 2,000 dollars for a book that retails for 65 and will be back in print within a year.

we BY FAR picked the most difficult hobby known in the world!!! if we're not getting our asses kicked by the number of fake items in the market, we are getting our asses kicked on the book prices to boot.

                  oh well.

we are an elite collector's association to say the least. most people could never make our ranks and have the patience..

                    Well put von Hoth.

A shame but true - - I would not like to be starting out forming a collection today !!

In many ways I believe it's easier to start a collection today.. 15 years ago in the UK we were paying £20 for a zinc West Wall medal that the dealers were picking up in Germany for 2 or 3 pounds each, even now you can get one with packet for £15 from German dealers. Ignorance was not bliss.

You have wonderful things at your disposal on these forums.. access to thousands of original items with close ups of pins, catches, hinges etc.. you just need to take the time to save the pics. in a good organised manner and also be prepared to take notes, just cut and paste the text into Word or some other program and hand type what's necessary. Detlev's book is very reasonable for the price, given it's size and content.

These forums have allowed me the opportunity to send back fake items for a refund that again 15/20 years ago I would have been forced to keep.
For me, literally thousands of pounds saved from the freindship of the good guys in this hobby.

Prices are quite restrictive I suppose, you just have to learn to buy and sell items to save up for the special pieces you need.

Good luck anyway.. please know that like the mafia you cannot leave this hobby, seriously, once you get into this stuff it never leaves you.
