    Stick Pin Help

Hi everyone, got this stick pin in a lot of different items. Never seen one like this before. 2 crossed knives with a microscope. White bar with letters that seem to be RDF u Jr, could be wrong on some letters. Back side has HARTMANN HANOVER. Correct knurl on the pin itself. Would this be some kind of civilian pin for Scientist? Very unusual to me. What is your thoughts?
    Regards,
    Gary

Gary That is a nice example of what is commonly called a trichonosis society badge. You can see it in Husken's book 5807a. I too have an example and it is exactly like yours as far as I can see. What part of Maine are you from? The reason I ask is I spent a considerable amount of life in Aroostook County. Forgive my spelling of trichonosis. It is of the top of my head. Hope this helps. Robert

Trichnosis? Sorry for my ignorance, I do not have that book. Was it political orginization for science? Aroostick county is far north of me Robert. Nothing up there but great scenery, great for hunting, fishing. Ever go there anymore?

It was a health organization for the inspection of meat.

Just goes to show, there was a badge for everything.

Triconella are worms found in meat, especially pork. A nasty critter that tends to find it's way into joints and eats away at the cartiledge.

                Hello

"RDF u Tr" for "Reichsverband Deutscher Fleischbeschauer und Trichinenschauer".

Did they have special uniforms and visors? Or plain white coats?
