1936 Winter Olympic Badge -- Opinions Please

Does anyone know if these Winter Olympic badges are real or just fantasy? I am considering one like this (not this one as it has already been sold), but haven't purchased it yet and want to be sure before I spend any good money. Many thanks!

I do not know anything about these badges but the manufacturer's logo seems to be correct with slightly curved letters.

Gents, I have never seen an example of this badge with a Haken Kreuz on it. Maybe others have. Here is my example of this badge but w/o Haken Kreuz. I hope this helps you make your decision Mr. Hastings. Manion's Volume 2 item 756 shows an example w/o Haken Kreuz as well. Robert

I have no specific information, but I would be very careful about a badge with a swastika. The official badge design by the IOC for the 1936 Winter Olympics had no swastika. It can be seen on the IOC website here. http://www.olympic.org/uk/games/past...GT=2&OLGY=1936 (button on upper right).

It also makes sense as Germany was deliberately downplaying the Nazi angle at the Olympics for foreigners, with the swastika appearing on very few IOC items (tickets, medals, etc.) so as not to scare off the world.

I wonder if the ones w/o swastika were official period made versions for the Olympics and the ones adorned w/ the Swastika were made later by the Nazi's for a Commemorative flavour?

I think it's more likely that the ones w/o Swastika were official period made versions and the ones with the Swastika were made post war for the collecting market. They are found quite regularly "under the counter" in badge shops in Munich...

Possibly. The FLL maker mark looks promising and not one you find too often in post war badges.

Thats a fake they still produce and sell here in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (my hometown). They exist without swaz as well. The main difference is that the letters of the fake ones are made of emaille, while the letters of the original-ones are surronded by the emaillie.

same here, I have also never seen any of the Olympic Pins with a swastika on it...otherwise, I think it looks fine. Cheers, Torsten.
