    What is this plaque

I am not sure this is the proper place for this, but I didn't really see any place for plaques and such. I would suppose this is Kriegsmarine related from the emblems on it, but am unsure.

Can anyone tell me what it is, and the possible worth of such? It is another item that I picked up from the Frankfurt Flohmarkt between 1973 and 1973.

    Thanks,
    Ron

The railways, the navy, mountain troops....a steering wheel to symbolise road transport....a strange looking eagle....never seen this before and it does not look like a period piece.

I really believe it is a period piece. In any event, I decided to try to take a better picture of it instead of being lazy and just photographing it hanging on my wall. It has been hanging there since shortly after returning from Germany in 1976. I found something on the back that I had forgotten existed. I tried to jockey the photo to make the lettering and signature show up better, but still the signature has faded to the extent that I cannot read it. Here are the new photos I just took.

Hi Ron, not seen this before...very nice piece and with the reverse side photos certainly a period piece in my opinion...could this be a kind of general logo/insignia of the transport troops of the Wehrmacht? I suspect you do know what it says on the piece of paper on the back and you do not need a translation? Cheers, Torsten.

Yes, generally I know what it says. It seems to me that mostly it is Kreigsmarine oriented. The overall colors being blue and gold seem KM to me.
The center (at the divider grid) emblem is a KM type winged projectile, there is the Navy anchor, and the other quadrants of the shield, while not KM, have in 2 of them what seem to depict water, waves and whitecaps. The enlongated hoheitsadler at the top is something I have seen before in connection with the KM. In fact several of the pin on metals KM breast eagles seem to have a thinner and longer wingspan than the Heer ones. I don't know about the rail transport, but the KM did transport Mountain Troops to northern areas (the one quadrant in addition to the waves seems to have a round object coming over the horizon........could this signify the "land of the midnight sun"? Don't know.......just a thought). Finally, the signature block (wish I could read the signature, but can't) is for a KM rank.........Lieutenant senior grade (Engineer).

I wonder if each member of the Accompanying Transport Company was presented a plaque by the Company Comander, or if it was presented to the company as a whole.............I would suspect the former. I do not know any of this; it is all observations and deductions.......in other words theory based on the observations and examination of the plaque, and almost 60 years of collecting.

I do not know for sure what the 3 symbols below the Hoheitsadler are........but I am thinking T B K (Transport Begleit Kompanie), or, maybe II B K (2d. Begleit Kompanie).

If you look closely at the round object over the wave top you will see that it is actually an ice hammer see the handle going down behind the mountain flower.

The Army and Luftwaffe both used Transport Begleit units--this one looks Army and the TBK under the eagle stands for Transport Begleit Kommando as noted on the reverse. According to the insciption, this one was a Christmas present, probably from the commander to each member.
