    NSFK Enamel Badges - Value

    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to get a value on some NSFK badges:

    1

    2

    3

The badges are marked G. Brehmer and I see from period catalogs that firm seems to have made a lot of insignia for the NSFK.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello Diane,
I could be wrong but I do believe there are some questions about the originality of these badges. I have read on some forums, not sure if it was here or not that some of these items are period, some complete reproductions and others supposedly made post war with original parts. Some have also said I believe that on original pieces the detailing on icarus figure is very well defined compared to reproduced ones, whether this is true or not I cannot say for sure. I have a few of these badges myself, bought in the 70's I believe, which is when I have heard all of a sudden these started showing up at shows. I hope others with more info or knowledge will comment on them. Some are extremely well done in my opinion. I have seen them being sold on reputable dealer sites & just lately have seen one on a well known site so as I said I hope others give their opinions

      NSKF Badge

      Diane,
I agree with Duzig. I too have several of these badges. They are very well made and I did buy them knowing they were repros.I paid about $75.00 for each. I was told one way to tell if it`s a repro is by the way the enamel was applied. If it`s uneven, kinda wavey looking, its probably a repro. It is real tuff now a days to tell the real deal from a fake.

        Enamel finish . . .

        Hi,

The enamel on these badges is perfect. No wavy lines or uneven application. The NSFK emblems are very detailed also. I will try to scan these so you can see more detail.

The key is in the face of the Icarus figure. The repros have a very vague face the originals appear to have a very detailed one. It really isn't obvious until you compare one of each side by side. This leads into the same old argument though of why the fakes are labeled as such. These badges would be expensive to produce and they have not flooded the market in sufficient enough numbers to warrant the cost of manufacture.

Mike Heuer at one time showed some of these badges that he received from the original owner who was in the NSFK so provenance does exist for several of the designs. Here is a link to the old thread.
