    Need Help To Identify

Recently acquired this WHW Bronze plaque in the picture box.

My question is for what was it awarded and how common was this type of award as I have never seen one before. Thanks for the help.

very nice....never seen one of those either...how big is the plaque? It was given for a special contribution to the WHW in 1939-40...what does the engraving say? Can you do a close-up of that? Cheers, Torsten.

I don’t know if the translation is a problem to you, but this is what the plaque says:

          Deutsch:

Diese Opferdankplakette wurde erworben von Gursum (?) Elektrizitätsgesellschaft Leyhausen und Co. Nürnberg – N. durch eine Sonderleistung zum Kriegswinterhilfswerk 1939-40.

          Plus minus English:

This donation gratitudeplaque was acquired by Gursum (?) Electricity Company Leyhausen & Co. Nuernberg - N. for an extraordinary achievement to the war winter welfare organization 1939-40.

The only trouble is the word or name Gursum, I assume the first letter is a ‘G’ but I am not sure.
Maybe one of the German members can shine a light on this.

I guess this firm raised a truckload of money for winter relief, or made a huge donation.
Or they bought the entire collection of tinnies at once…

          Groets,
          Martin

The first letter is an S, so it says sursum.
That was the full name of the company: Sursum-Elektrizit******228;tsgesellschaft Leyhausen & Co

Yes, the 'S' was also one of my thoughts, but I thought it matched the 'G' more.
So it is Sursum you say.

Those Gotic capitals can trouble me every know and then if the ornaments are too rich...

              Thanks for the correction!

              Best regards,
              Martin

That is a cool item! Well, here are my 2cts.:
I believe it to be rare as it seems to be of higher quality material,it is engraved with the donor´s name and for a "special contribution"-since owned by a company I think it was much more expensive if "buyable" at all.It is like the luxury version of a Türplakette.Great item!

                  Guys,

Thanks for the help and the translations. Certainly the Company must have done something outstanding as you say to earn this award.

There must have been others awarded, but I have never seen another.

                  Thanks again!
