1st pattern Blood Orders - how many know to have survived?

    Hi guys-

I am in the process of acquiring my first, 1st pattern Blood Order and I was wondering... how many 1st pattern blood orders are know to be in the collecting community? I'm sure there are several out there that are unknown to all but a very select few - perhaps just the owners - but I'm sure that someone must have some sort of numbers on how many of these pieces have traded hands throughout the years, and if so is it possible to share that info here?

    Thanks in advance!
    Rob

Congratulations! One of the most important and the most coveted awards of the III. Reich.
I can guarantee that no one knows exactly how many have survived and are out there. Any numbers would be conjecture.

      Blood Order numbers-1st pattern

It is not surprising that these would have been hidden for decades after the war,any connection with the old regime would hardly be prudent, head down and all that. Some would inevitably would have been destroyed or chucked.I supose only the hardened would have secreted their BO away until the collecting boom. For what they are vis a vis historical importance
well simply put they are priceless. For me the mystique surrounding the
whole event proves fascinating; I also parallel this along with the "Battle of Coburg" of October 1922, only 436 awards made, several of these alte kampfer fell on 30th June 1934.Theses are extremely rare awards and as collectors the apex of "acquisition"shall we say.Personally I am looking for a list of Coburg abzeichen holders.

        SS Coberg

As a point of some assistance, Coburg Badge holders of the SS are noted in the SS Dienstaltersliste, so you could go through the 1938 list and determine how many of the Coburg Badge holders were SS members. Probably at least 20% I would guess.

          Coburg Abzeichen

Thanks Ron - one way for sure, I should shake myself and sort it out so to speak, nonetheless I believe there to be a definitive list of the 1922 heroes of Coburg.I do not possess a key so I will have to await the Coburg list from somewhere.

If anyone is looking for a Coburg badge, there's one on Helmut Weitze's site that looks like the actual award type (rather than the later wearer's copies). Very rare!

                Coburg Badge

Yes Erich that is an original 1932 issue with the weak skinny pin arrangement, owning one I could not believe how fragile these fist type pins were. Many must have been lost in weardue to the inability of the pin to secure the badge effectively.

Same here, Kyle! If I didn't already own one I would take that one. Certainly one of the rarest badges of the NSDAP.
