Enamel of the week.. German Church

This is a German Christian church badge.... This was the religious arm of the nazi party..as you can imagine not many men of God could make the transition, so not many produced...tough to find.
this example has some interesting green tarnish attacking the copper base under the enamel on the bottom.

This was the 2nd type membership pin of the Deutsche Christen, Reichsbewegung (see #5106b in the Heering- Hüsken catalog). To say that it was "the religious arm of the nazi (sic) party" is more than a stretch. More accurately, it was a Christian religious organization with Nazi sympathies.

Heering & Hüsken show 10 different badges dealing with the Christen religon 6 of which are Deutsche Christen badges. There are also the badges specifically for Deutscher Luthertag and remember even the Reichsheer carried God on their belt buckles

ok i will take the critique as a stretch ...however it was created by the Nazis as a means of introducing religion to the party faithful in that even the Nazis as atheistic as they were realized they could not cut off the party faithfull totally from religion and this was there response.

            Mike,

That is correct. It was a cynical approach. The general feeling of the Nazi heirarchy was the the Church "could be dealt with after the war". One need only read excerpts from the Goebbels Diary to see this sentiment evidenced.

That is a great little pin.... bizarre symbolism...the crucifix and the swastika; the "crown of thorns" (that could also be barbed wire)....

Later, I will post a period Day Badge of a certain Nazi-Christian event, to add to this thread.

Anyone else have anything that shows this "mixed" sort of symbolism?
