    Alpenverein Badge.....with a big surprise..;-)

Hi Guys, I recently bought this 25 year membership badge for the Deutscher Alpenverein on the internet...I bought it from only seeing pics of the front. Although, the seller stated that the reverse was engraved, he did not say any more and I did not pay much attention to it...and when I got the badge and looked at the engraving, I realised that this badge was originally given to someone I knew of... Dr. Ernst Hanfstaengl. If you have ever read any biographies of Adolf, Goering or the early NSDAP/Hitler movement, then you will immediately know, who it is that I am talking about here...but, if you do not know, this link will give you a brief summary of who Ernst Hanfstaengl was...

    http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk...nfstaengel.htm

Has anyone else had similar surprises with items they got??.....Cheers, Torsten.

PS: Needless to say, I am very happy with my purchase...

Torsten, I think that's a great badge . Were you able to get any kind of paper work or documentation with it? Horror of horrors if the E. stood for Erich or Edmund or the like. Is hafsnaegel(sp.?) a common sur name? If I recollect he lived close to Munich. Enjoy the research you may have ahead of you. For me that's the best part. In any event, bravo!! Have a Good One. Torsten, One thing to add.....Seeing that it was engraved "Dr." that should narrow your search quite a bit. Keep us posted with your research. Robert

thanks Robert...since getting it I have of course asked the seller about more items from that household and he has nothing...he bought the badge as part of a lot of different types of badges and, as far as he was concerned there was nothing special about it...Hanfstaengl is not a common name....but I think the chances that this one is not THE Ernst Hanfstaengl are very, very slim...but then again, stranger things have happened... anyhow, as far as I am concerned...that is my man.... Cheers, Torsten.

If you contact the organisation they should be able to tell you who the man was and address. This being a post war award. They are not so keen to give out information on earlier members.

Thank you, I have already had correspondence with the Alpenverein in Muenchen and they responded very quickly saying that they had no past membership records and could not help...;-((...I also asked them for photos or any other records from the time that might show the man and at least they said they would have a look and get back to me...Cheers, Torsten.
