    Steno graphenschaft badge

Does anyone have an example of the Stenographenschaft basic members badge they could post. I am interested in the reverse as much of the obverse. I have recently bought an example but would like to compare it to others. It is supposedly quite a rare badge, according to JR Cones book on enamelled badges, with around 4000 manufactured. But I have seen a few around which leads to suspect, in my paronoid collecters mind, that they may have been reproduced. I am unable to directly post a pic myself though if anyone could do it for me I would be appreciative.

Your pin certainly looks like the one I have had for years and which I believe is a period piece. I am not able to post a photo of it. however.

I recently bought a documennt gooup that belonged to a member of the Stenografenschaft.. The ID is bound in a 6 1/2 by 1 4 1/2" blue folder. In addition to the ID, there are several pages of dues stamps. Her member number was 459 and it was uissued to her on 10 August 1941.

Included in the group is a letter from the local office reminding her that she must pay 1 Reichsmark before they can issue the membershup pin to her!

          Picture of Reverse

Here is a picture of the reverse. I am glad to know that it looks okay, its quite a nice design, the winged pencil.

That sounds like an interesting document group Ken, and would appear to corroborate the view that it was quite a small organisation.

Just noticed that yours is a pinback pin. The ones I have had were stickpins but the front all looked the same. Mike

Well, I don't have a pin but I did manage to obtain a Steno membership book and documentation for a woman that worked for the Junkers factory. Here is the paperwork.

Nice group, Richard. My ID differs a bit from yours, but they were issued five years apart.

Another part of my group is the "Deutscher Kurzschrift-Kalender 1941." While this is similar to many of the other Third Reich pocket calendars, it has only one page showing rank insginia for an organization - this for the RAD!? It shows the shorthand for each rank. Why the RAD? Did that organization use more stenos than any other? Curious.

In futherance to this interesting thread on the Stenographenschaft I recently acquired these two documents. I was wondering if anyone could cast any light on them. I presume the second just gives details of membership dues, though there is scribbled NS Arbeitsdienst, I am unsure whether this means they were doing labour service separately or they were transferred as a Stenographer to them.

It is sad that Ken is no longer with us to discuss this further as he was always so helpful in giving me and others advice and the benefits of his knowledge. I hope he is at peace.

                              Excellent enamel...i am jealous.
i am reading a recently published set of stenographer notes that are a summation of all surviving documents that these stenographers took of Hitler's military conferences...edited by Glanz. worth reading as it gives an insight into the "casual" Adolf's mind...
