An extreemly good point. Badges with similar numbers can be found in multiple combinations. This is why I am trying to compulate a broad base of names and numbers.

well actually there can be 4 or 5 ! I have seen sets with 4 of the same numbered badge, and have heard of as many as 5. When you consider that over 22,000 people were entitled to the GPB and most had at least 2 badges you are looking at well over 50,000 and maybe up to 70,000 produced of the standard none AH pins. They are not as I would class'rare' by any means.

AgainI must agrea with John. They are scarse. The price is rather over the top. The rare thing is a grouping. These turn up very infrequently.

Jon, there are certainly multiple numbered examples of which you write. I was refering to the specific quote. In researching my only set, I found the young owner had a problem keeping his GPB sets. He had ordered several sets, apparently loosing them. I still think it is a rare badge, though not as much as your favorite, the Blood Order. Perhaps there was a potential for such a large number of badges as you suggest, but I think only a very small proportion are in collections or being sold. I have far more identified numbers in my data base than I have record of actual badge numbers in collections.

Joe, I do agree with you that much smaller number survive than were issued,of course this is true as with most medals connected with the Nazi period for the obvious reasons. However I fail to see how a badge that was issued more than 50,000 pieces can be classed as rare. If there was 70,000 issued and I think this is not out of the question, then it would be safe to say that 25% survive and that would mean around 17,500 still out there in collection, families, sock draws etc etc. Then in comparison you have just over 4000 blood orders issued in both guises total, now if you say 25 % of those survive you are talking around 1000 only surviving.Thats what I would call rare. I think that the prices on the GPB have gone to a silly level ,they are available out there, I could buy 10 today If I had the money, thats not a rare badge therfore. The main issue I have here is that awardees could request more of his/her badge so out of the 20,000 owners they could have numorous badges.
We see with this hobby certain items having 'Hot' phases ,recently we have seen it with the SS TK rings ,these have since cooled a bit, then it was the Train eagles ,again numerous and a couple of years ago not so desirable but now in to a very strange pricing band considering what they are , and we are currently seing this with the GPB that I feel is over-rated as far as pricing linked to availability and rarity goes.
Just my observations I hope you understand and these numbers I suggest are purely my guesstemate .

I think John has made a very sound point about avalability. Most dealers have examples on their lists. Collectors have many. John Prepara has a quantity. I have 20 or so. John has some, JoeW has some, the list goes on. I would think 1000 could be counted without difficulty.Blood Orders ? SS 25 year cross?

Hmmm, I guess I can't argue with the logic that is presented here. If you collect ANY type of GBP, then I guess it is easy. But since I collect below a certain number range, it gets difficult.

While I know something about GBPs, it is not that easy to fake. I don't believe the same applies to the Blood Order, but I admit I could be wrong.

The GBP is also more recognizeable than the B.O. My opinions only.

Our website was mentioned before on this set we have from the Gaulieter who was awarded them, but mint, based on the information we have, he didnt get to use them. He died within a month of getting them.

That is one nice "late model" 30mm GPB.

I bought a 30mm GPB from Paul Jarvis and I am very pleased with it. In fact, their price was so good that, when John Pepera found out how much I paid for it, he believed it must be a fake.

"Relic of the Reich" is definitely a great site. I just wish they have more of the stuff I want.

Jon, I agreed with you that there was no comparison with the Blood Order. I suppose it is a matter of semantics. I certainly would not denegrate your Blood Orders by comparing them to the GPB in rarity. The BOs are Super Rare? I just would not ascribe the word "Common" to the GPB. If there were 50,000 or 70,000 possible issues, remember that there was a proportion of 24mm and 30mm and it seems to me that the 30mm are just not seen that often compared to the 24mm. Ron, you are right on with the hype on the badges by dealers. But even with a 1000 out there, is that a common badge?

As for rarity, how about the Polizei Bergfuhrer or Schi-Fuhrer badges? Perhaps less than 250 issued? Or the Wehrwirtsschaftsfuhrer badge?

Joe I am certainly not calling he GPB common ,they are not common, they are desirable and relatively scarce ,but they are also readily available. They are currently 'en vogue' and collectors cant get enough of them ,and the flow of them on the market is steady so everyone is happy.I'd love you to show me 5 reasonably priced blood orders like I could show you GPB. Anyway I don't want to get in to one medal/badge v another debate. Going back to the original point of my posting , there were 20,000 people awarded the GPB and these had 2/3/4 or more EACH so we have to do the maths.Given those numbers I would not call it RARE, but I would call it SCARSE And I would certainly call it desirable and a wonderful badge to collect

I agree with you totally Jon. Wish I had kept my 1st style BO and document. Just have the single cased second with his document/folder. Many more GPBs around than the BOs.
