Fake or Fantasy

Got this with some other items I was after. I believe it to be a copy but would like to know if it is a copy of a known badge or just a fantasy piece. I did not pay for it as such so no damage done and seller made no claims about it

Definitely not a fantasy piece Andy.

It's based on the Gau Osthannover badge which came in Bronze, Silver & Gold. All of the bronze & silvers I have seen are hollow backed, not solid, I think only the gold was solid backed, but I'm not sure.

This definitely is not a genuine Gau badge as the leaves are wrong (see pic of one offered by Weitze). However, I believe that there was a tinnie version of a similar design so it could be one of those. Perhaps one of our tinnie collectors has one that they can show to compare.

As an additional piece of info, Detlev states in his latest catalogue that he believes that the hollow backs are all tinnies & that all grades should be solid......

The leaves are still wrong on the piece in question though.
