DJ Badges - Please Explain Differences

I recently acquired this great grouping and needed to know the difference between the two DJ badges. Under what circumstances would each be worn? What was the difference? (Oh, and I can figure out the HJ diamond one by myself.. )

    Thanks to all!

According to Cone's book, these were for members of the Deutsches JungVolk, i.e. boys aged 10 to 14 years old. According to this book the DJV is the earlier version, as the V was dropped from the design in 1934 although it is claimed that the DJ version was also produced as early as 1933. The DJ version is the one that remained with the organisation until its disbandment.

The black and white shots of the these badges in my copy of the book are not too clear but they do show the difference in the stippling under the red, as shown in your photos. The reverse photos in the book show Steinhauer's name and location in full and Ges.Gesch. on the back of the badge itself (DVJ version) but only Ges.Gesch. and numbers I cannot make out around the base of the pin (DJ version).
      I hope this helps you.

        Hi William,

I can't add anything regards background as Terry has covered it fully. However, I would like to a picture of the backs if possible as I do have concerns which may be alleviated by seeing them.

        Cheers
        Don

            Reverses of the Badges

            Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay in sending in the picture. My digital camera camera batteries died yet again....

But several hours later, the batteries are alive.

Here are the reverses. Let me know what you think as well as your concerns. By the way, the badges aren't as glossy as they appear in the obverse photo. They show age (which I know does not prove them original) but I had shot them in sunlight.

            Looking forward to your responses!

              Hi William,

Thanks for the extra picture. I do confess that my concerns have lessened somewhat now that I see the backs.

However, there is something about the style of the font used on the front of the two DJ's that worry me & I don't know why. It could just be the bright reflection from the sun that is putting me off. I'd be interested in James' view as he does have more experiance than I in this area.

              Cheers
              Don

                  I do appreciate all comments!

I purchased these from a fellow forum member and good friend. I am eager to hear all opinions as I have no desire to set something back in my collection as oriignal only to learn years later that is a well-known fake. So I do appreciate your input. By the way, I can bring along any items to the SOS in Feb if anyone wants to see anything firsthand. Again, my thanks.

                  William

                    Hi William,
Thanks for showing the backs of these badges as far as I can see they all pass inspection your DJV badge is marked just like mine and your DJ badge is the same as other 72 marked badges I have seen but it is a little different then the one I have as far as the shape of the stippling and the J font is a little different also being mine is marked 24 I would say that's the reason for the differences. I believe the reason for the concern was due to the fact they just looked to good in your picture.
