    Luftwaffe Akademie Pin

    Gentlemen,

I would appreciate some help with this stickpin. I bought it from Detlev a few weeks back (I actually hit my "send" button quick enough to get something) but want to know more about it.

Detlev listed it as a "Luftwaffe Akademie" pin. But I know nothing about a Luftwaffe Akademie, apparently located in Berlin.

Can anyone help with this pin and the Akademie? I have no reason to doubt Detlev's identification of the pin but since you have to buy quickly on his site, I had no time to ask any questions. It is definitely a case of shoot first and ask questions later with his site. And he is pretty busy though wonderful about answering queries.

Any help would be appreciated. By the way, it is marked "Lauer -Nurnberg" on the back (on the disk). Pretty cool.

Dug out my trusty Heering-Husken Katalog

      Mike,
It is listed on page 32 with a pic on page 33.The item # is 2710. If you don't have a H & H catalog, the badge is under the "Deutche Akademie der Luftfahrtforschung (DAL). The pin is the Erinnerungsabzeichen zur Grundung der DAL am 24.7.1936. Its odd that the date listed is different on your pin and the pin in the illustration. Perhaps some of the German speaking members can help out.

Tom, most likely this pin's design was a standard design for the Akademie with the year corresponding to the time the person went there.

          Mike,
I've got one just like yours and believe them both to be good as gold. As said by others, the piece is listed in Andre's book (the 1936 notation is a typo, as the picture clearly shows 1938) as a rememberence badge for the Aviation Research Academy in Berlin.
