Nothing beats having a real one for comparison - but getting the first real one seems crucial, as does checking with knowledgeable persons.

I must agree with our colleagues here, though the presentation case stands a good chance of being original to the period...and cases are much more difficult to find than commemorative medallions are!

The only original cases that I have seen and owned have had a royal blue velvet liner.
These fake cased examples came out of the UK several years ago.
