Damn, it was advertised as silver?
Looks like silver wash is faded and below we see the messing/tombac ?

I can see what the problem with this piece is: The presence of the hint of bronze color on both the obverse and the reverse could indicate that an original bronze finish has washed away, leaving the silver-colored base metal showing for most of the badge, or that hint of bronze color could indicate that the original silver finish has worn away in places, leaving the bronze color of the base metal showing through. Given the placing of the bronze color as it appears on this piece -- mostly in the deeper recesses of the stamped badge -- I would tend to agree with schönbeck that this piece was produced in the bronze color, not the silver.

This, then, is an example of the 3rd Issue of the SA Sport Badge -- the SA Military Defense Badge -- in the Bronze Grade.

          Thanks gentlemen,

I ignored that the base metal could be "steel" (the badge is magnetic). For me, the base metal was always yellow colored. So at first sight it really looks like a silver with some worn away. But when looking at it now, it's obvious that the less exposed areas still retains their bronze finish.

          Thanks.
