I have never seen an actual 1st pattern MC before. The enameling looks good from here, but from the photo I have. it looks like the signature is too low.
Hopefully someone knows more.

Hi Warlord,

Could you point out to us the documentation that the inscription on the first pattern Mothers Crosses was hand-engraved? I'm not doubting it; I've never held one of these and only have the pictures in Detlev's guide, I had just never heard that they were hand-engraved.

Unfortunatly I can not post, but would be happy to share the photos of the three grades. This clearly shows the method employed.

I have one exactly like this first pattern only in gold. I DO BELIEVE that this is a variation to those pictured in most references. My veteran acquired cased gold grade has been examined by German dealers and have been told it is correct, so don't be too quick to jump on this one as being not original. It is the first one that I have seen during the 10 years that I have owned my gold one that has the variation inscription.

IF these are not good, where are all the other copies with this style of reverse?
The question at the time was: "Was the reverse ground down and the type one fraudulent inscription added?" and it was quite obvious that this did not occur.

These where produced in the 80's and came cased. The inscription is hand engraved, the one shown has been at best cast, or done by engraving machien. All the first pattern are of the same type.
