The legend translates as "do your best". The design almost looks like the cub scout design. I really don't have a clue what age this is but would suspect that it is post war.

Boy Scout first crossed my mind as well--but I thought that I saw this once in one of my books on pins before 1945 but can't find it again. Might be mistaken! Mike

Sure looks like a German Cub Scout badge to me!

Do they HAVE Cub Scouts in Germany?

Before the Nazi Party came to power there was the Boy Scouts then it was the HJ now it's back to the Boy Scouts. It's hard to say if thats a pre or post war badge as I'm sure the design wasn't changed.

My guess just from a Scouting basis is that this badge is not related to Cub Scouting. I spent some time as a US Scouting leader in the Transatlantic Council in Germany, and did some events together with German Scouts. Their organization at that time (late 90s) was called Pfadfinder (Pathfinders), and was affiliated with the international Boy Scouting organization. However, they did not have an equivalent organization to US Cub Scouts. Their Pfadfinder groups (at least the ones we worked with) did not have boys as young as Cub Scouts.

The US Cub Scout motto IS "Do Your Best," and the main Cub Scouting symbol IS a wolf's head, but I don't think this badge is related to "German Cub Scouting" because they don't have Cub Scouting. But, this may be related to the Pfadfinder organizations, I'm just guessing!

I would note that the Heering - Husken 1997 catalog has two unknown badges on page 376 that resemble the animal head without the surrond. I'd say one was a fox and the other a wolf. I wonder if this isn't a fox instead of a wolf?

                For what it's worth.
