    unknown mountaineering badge

Just been offered this mountaineering badge...it looks good enough to me, but what is it? Is the DAV = Deutscher Alpenverein??...but then it says Austria on it? Can anyone date this badge? My guess is that it is pre-1938...?? Thank you very much in advance for your help. Cheers, Torsten.

This is a badge after 1945 and the club is still in existance. The Austria would not have been used before the war.

thank you. I thought the gothic lettering was no longer used in Germany and in Austria after 1945?...which is why I though it to be pre-1938..??..can anyone else confirm please?? Cheers, Torsten.

It is one of German DAV pre war badges. It is exactly not an Austrian. First of all look at national colours on the badge - red, white and black -is combination of german national colours. For sure I have one of these badges with maker mark - Deschler Munchen.

            Servus Torsten,

A very interesting badge!!! I would say that it is post Anschluess. Before the Anschluess the badges were "DOeAV" or German-Austrian Alpine Club. After the Anschluess and during the war it was just DAV or German Alpine Club. After the war they became two seperate clubs....DAV and OeAV.

so, it is probably pre-war and it is certainly post 1932...thank you every one...knowing this now, I wish I would have bought the badge...the price was good for pre-war but too high for post war...well, I hope there'll be anothe opportunity in the future... Cheers, Torsten.
