As I said the last time you posted this piece, these have been well faked & are not easily spotted by photographs alone. An "in hand" inspection is generally needed to gauge the "feel" of the metal.
What does worry me with this piece is the style of font used on the serial number, it is very different to the ones used on the other silver versions that I have studied.
Don, the font on the piece shown is similiar to that on mine, which started the thread. I don't know if this is peculiar to the bronze ones. I probably wasn't very clear on mine, but this came from a good source that didn't gun show or travel around picking up stuff; he farmed. However mine is marked or made, it left Germany that way in 1945.
Though the hotel buy group you mentioned look like a different serial number group than mine, I'd still be interested in seeing the reverse to compare pins and stampings. Does anyone have one?

Robert,
I have one exactly like yours. I purchased it at a Houston Gun Show in 1978. I paid $20.00 for it. Like you, I knew it was original as soon as I saw it. It has the same pin as yours, and is also serial numbered. It was only after Jason Burmeister turned up the lot in the packets that the Bronze version was finally confirmed. Nice piece...Tom
Thanks Tom, there's at least one more out there like mine!

Neither of you mentioned your thoughts about the one I posted? I'm curious if you had any thoughts about it? it looks very similar to the ones you have..
Thanks for your time.
Hi Alex,
Sorry, wasn't ignoring you. With the 800 stamp, I thought yours was silver and not bronze, like ours. Is yours bronze or silver?
I think ours are different breeds, however. The obverse has slight differences, and the pins are completely different, also. I will say that yours has the same type stamp for the serial number as mine, as I mentioned previously. Not much help, I'm afraid.

No worries. Yes the pins are very different in style. It is stamped as silver. I'm not sure how to test it to be sure though for its silver content. hmmm.
Thanks!

Can somebody please explain why John's example posted in this thread doesn't have an issue number on it but some kind of circular design where it should be instead? What's the difference between the two, or what does it signify, perhaps private purchase?
That the bronze versions existed and were produced by G Danner as shown on the packets in post #11, is IMO confirmed by this badge which shows identical hardware and makers name.

So the badge with the logo is completely 100% authentic and an accepted variant as well? I have heard it may be considered a "tinnie" version of the actual award, can anyone clarify?

Thanks for resurrecting this old thread. Yes, it's the Gautag tinnie, not to be confused with the Gauadler (Commemorative badge). Look closely and you'll see the difference.
William, the badge you are talking about is one of the two types of tinnie of this event/events. You got a line on one, as this thread is ancient, though I am glad you bought it up as I have never read it.
Regards,
Pete
