Looks like an original Fuess, with a replaced pin plate and very hard use on the enamel.

Unless this GPB is sold very cheaply, you would be better off buying a badge in better condition.

    These are always available.

Agree, it's original but in rough shape.

          Tom Wittmann is way overpriced.

But to flip the coin, sometimes the badge holder being linked could bear a significant meaning for the badge. Condition matters but the bearer of the badge could be important as well.

I agree that this is an original GPB -- awarded to Pg. Johann Nebert -- and that it is in less than good condition, but in the end the 'value' of this or any artifact is gauged by you as the collector. If this was to be the only example of a GPB or even of a Fuess-marked GPB in my collection, then I would personally pass on it, as there are examples in much better condition available on the market. But this piece was awarded to a fairly early member of the reconstituted NSDAP -- a membership awarded in late June/early July of 1925, which was just four months after Hitler's re-establishment of the NSDAP and began to accept a new membership system. So, as always, the choice is yours!

Best regards, and welcome among us; IT'S GOOD TO HAVE YOU HERE!

The small Fuess above is real, but I don't like Witmann's current offering of a matched set of GPB for $6500. They look like really good copies to me. Materials are wrong - base material for wreath backing should be brass, not white metal, and I have never seen the gilding wear through like that. Lettering on the front of the Fuess is wrong. Pinplate is wrong on both of them. Large Deschler has odd wreath leaves.

Doesnt the enamel work around the letters look very cheap? Seems the selling point is the paper work.

Photos for posterity. The enamel (esp. on the large) isn't high quality. On a closer look, the small Fuess has the tell-tale signs of the lines OVER the leaves, although polished down a bit because they were ID'd as a sign of a fake early on. These look like clever fakes to me custom numbered out of the DAL, so paying more is not a guarantee of better...

I fully agree, Stephen, as I noted directly to Tom when I first saw this pair. I wish he would take them down from his website...

Like you guy's already mentioned: that set stinks !!! The Deschler is wrong and so is the Fuess

Stephen is pointing out something, that helps me learn and gets my attention more and more, whenever he mentions it.

The way the original GPBs wear down should Not look like someone skipped them through a parking lot a few times, and then, for good measure, decided to take a Brillo pad to the number area to erase the gilding, to reveal the wrong base metal underneath.

Real GPBs have a unique gilding process, and are beautiful. It's a good thing Stephen points out, a thing to be cautious of - the Wear on these. Not to mention Wim and BrJames comments about the fact they are not consistent with real badges, no matter what the condition.

Normal age, ok - but the only way a GPB would age like TW's set is - hell, I don't know! Give them to a couple of teenage Vandals who want to destroy something really well, with brillo pads, sandpaper, etc.? Or is it just - Someone wearing them down on purpose, the way no GPBs on the planet would wear down, to hide imperfections and sell them?

As long as this tricks innocent collectors, it will be done. I'm not calling out any dealer personally.

What's the difference between a TR collector and a Shady Dealer?
The TR collector keeps the fakes he got burned on in a box or drawer.
The Shady Dealer buys and sells them for a huge profit.

Set 90854 has too many red flags it’s a no go. I wouldn’t even bother with purchasing them. That’s a hard pass for me.

                            Regards Martin.

                              Gpb

An original mangled GPB no way is it worth $800.00 unless it belongs to a name
