I have compared this badge with photos all over the net; trying to see if it is an original but I just haven't the eye for this sort of item. Could I prevail upon you more knowledgeable folks for opinions?

My opinion is that it is a cast fake. The edges are jagged and the overall appearance doesn't have the quality of an original.
The numbers on the back have also been stamped with a different punch.
