Did Himmler wear these first after the separation from the SA and then the others copied him or was this separation of the SS the opportunity for the rank tab to be designed for all four organisations to use?

      Tony:

Both Himmler and Lutze had tabs designed for their positions in August 1934. Huhnlein as NSKK Korpsfuhrer wore tabs starting 1935 that had "half wreaths" around the oakleaves. My assumption as to why half wreaths is because he was not a Reichsleiter as Himmler and Lutze were. In early 1938 Lutze had his tabs re-designed to show smaller wreaths and include a bow and ribbons at the base of the central oakleaves. In Sept 1938 Huhnlein was promoted to Reichsleiter. At that time Huhnlein started wearing the new 1938 design that Lutze had adopted but in different colors of course. He never wore the first style from 1934 although photos have been re-touched to show him wearing them. When Axmann became Reichsjugendfuhrer in 1940 he adopted tabs similar to Himmler's 1934 style. A side note-- there are FAKES going around as originals of Axmann's tabs that have the bow and ribbons at the bottom. But Axmann NEVER EVER wore tabs like these. Obviously forgers did not know this and copied the 1938 style tabs of Lutze and Huhnlein by mistake -- dead giveaway.

As to the velvet on the example posted in #1, compare this cloth to the example of some political tabs currently for sale on the estand.

Please review the tab on the left side of the posting.

The velvet looks very similar, if not identical.

        Opinions?
