A very attractive piece. To my knowledge, the SA did not produce an official ring the like of the SS-Ehrenring, though a number of different designs bearing the SA logo have been found -- some of which appear to be pre-war and some post-war.

        Again, a very attractive piece.

I never saw a ring with those ornaments from a NS organisation. Also in a producers list of that time I found none.

Thanks guys. It could very easily be a private purchase piece pre or post. It came to me with a few other items unrelated that were WWII period.

It looks like a well-worn piece, and as it is solid silver (.800), it should polish up quite nicely.

It does not appear to me to be a period or pre-period piece; I see a number of red flags with this ring. I could be mistaken, but I believe this may be a post war fantasy piece. Just my 2p on it, but I would not want it in my collection. I am also not a fan of polishing rings; I believe they should be left as they are.

I only saw 3 original types of rings with this thickness of metal: the SS honour ring, the Sa-Standarte Feldherrnhalle ring and the HJ leader ring ! But they all haven't such a floral design.

This ring is potentially believable to me. There are several commonly encountered reproduction rings--the so-called Feldherrnhalle design, those with an enameled SA rune, and the very poorly done SA sport badge design. This one has sharper details and is a cleaner casting than the fakes. I believe the body of this ring was a standard design with only the center insignia being changed depending on what the customer wanted. SA rings were private purchase pieces, so the designs were created by the jewelry firms. Whether or not the designs had to be okayed by the OSAF I've never discovered; early on they certainly weren't.

                      Exactly my thought, Erich!

I just don’t see it. My collecting focus for years has been rings. I truly believe this is just a fantasy piece. Don’t waste your money.

I don't think 'wasting money' is an issue with this piece, Byzanti. Chainsawrich, who originally posted this thread, tells us:

SA items/rings were well out of favor by the time the war had started.. this band design,,pretty close to what was being offered by 40 or so,,slight possibility...

SA had its own newspaper,,and there were other periodicals that advertised rings near the back pages,, also the trade guilds show many designs and even proposed designs.. Maybe those that think its period and in to SA stuff can find a advert... I'd love to see it..

Even IF,, this is a cast piece.. Old,,just not WW2 old.....

Hey if you like it then great for you..

I see that, thank you. I can tell the person posting is asking whether it is period or not, soliciting opinions - and not trying to vette a piece he thinks or thought was original, nor pushing one to be original that isn’t. I have been around now here long enough to know however that in the margins of “maybe” many bad deals have been made. I didn’t want this to end up on the maybe pile or on our estand being sold as a real piece with a real price. I wanted to make my opinion abundantly clear. There have been more crap fake rings out there in our niche of the hobby lately than unexploded mines left in Laos. The fakers like to work the margins and then insist upon the originality based on doubts and possibilities. It’s very frustrating to collectors in other niches as well I imagine, and I just want to share what I know for free to anyone who might be thinking of PMing a guy to try to make a deal etc. All collectors need to do their own research for sure, but there’s been a lot of ripoff artists out there who have damaged the whole hobby in so many ways using forums to vette fakes and insinuating legitimacies when none exist. I want to be on the other side of that, pushing against it, as long as I can.
