    Wooden wall eagle - diplomatic?

    Hi all,

Picked up this wall eagle at a local show. It’s carved from solid wood (I think beech stained darker) the chap I brought it off claims it came from a private collection in Belgium. There’s an old repair on the back where you can see the swastika was snapped off at some point, whether on purpose I don’t know but the repair is good. It shows all the correct signs of age but being wood it’s always hard to tell. It’s 101cm wide, 34cm long and 4cm thick. I brought it as a centre piece to my collection. Opinions welcome please.

Note - it’s all hand carved and not machine finished. So what do all you ‘bird’ experts think?

It's beak looks like a Pachyderm and the wreath is unique but I like it. Of course you'll ALWAYS get the response that there's no way to confirm period or post war mfg. I think it's okay though.

This piece is fashioned after the design of the standard Reichstag Eagle of the Nazi Government, though it's styling is a bit unique. Your use of this piece as a centerpiece to your collection makes perfect sense to me. As for it being "period" or not, if the price was right, I would have bought it, too!

          Cheers,

            Gozzy,

I agree with Brother James' observations and especially the part about the price being fair ... If so, then I think you have a splendid Art Deco eagle which should make for a very good addition and centerpiece for your collection.

            Very nice bird !

            Best regards,

            Bill W.

I have no idea when this was made. But it will make an awesome display.

Hi, it is a neat piece and styled liked a reichstag eagle or a Reno piece but the details seem off. Wooden items are usually produced in small numbers.
