If I get this one I think I might keep it, it has a military pin. I was informed the number can be tracked down now but not sure I want to pay the price. Being a collector now days is really tough!!!

Yes, there are those here among us who can do the research via the NARA Archives in Maryland, and they do charge a fee for their services...a fee which, IMHO, is well worth the relatively small amount charged, given that having such detailed information will increase the value of any numbered GPB. My advice would be to check with the research professionals directly -- at least with their websites -- to find out how much each one charges, and you can take it from there.

Though you haven't shared a photo of both sides of the badge in question, a military pin would indicate a large GPB. But be aware that while the research professionals can likely help you with background information on the person who held a particular NSDAP Membership Number, they cannot guarantee that the badge bearing that number is genuine to the period. Such opinions are what this forum is for!

I did not take a picture, it is not that kind of deal. I have not made a mistake on one of these yet, I have owned many and even sold several to John Pepara. The one I have with the odd numbers I knew where not the typical numbering style. I bought it as a fake but I knew the badge was real, the numbers were just a plus period or not.
If I do buy it I will post pictures.

Footnote: Franz Joss was born on 13 March 1902 in Budapest, Austria-Hungary. He joined the NSDAP on 22 November 1926 with membership number “54915”. Employed as an automobile mechanic, he enlisted in the National Socialist Motor Corps (NSKK) and served with Motorsturm 1. He is registered to various addresses in Graz, Wallendorf, Vienna, and finally Neu-Ulm. Joss received the Golden Party Badge on 25 January 1935.
