3rd Reich Wellner Silverware - Identification needed

Hello Gents,

A customer reached out to me asking if I could identify what this piece is. I haven't the slightest... The tube is aprox 7.5" tall. The bottom is stamped wellner 2. I appologize for the picture orientation, the forum uploader is not cooperating today.

Hi Mike,

I know Brent Smith is a member here, so I hope he sees your note and has a positive ID to offer for this most unusual piece! I'm not sure whether Jim Yannes belongs to WAF or not...

In looking at the photos again, it strikes me that the die-stamping of the NSDAP eagle on sections of this piece appears to be almost casually executed -- on the threaded top, on the upper portion of the barrel, and on the base plate. And though the "Wellner" silversmith mark is present, the "2" seems to me to be a design reference number, not relevant to any silver content. Not sure what all this may mean...??...but it's a very unusual and interesting piece!

Looks scientific to me. All stamping and mfg markings look original.

Thank you for the comments guys. I agree Brent, it does look scientific. And I also agree with you James, the number two does seem to be a design reference number. Whatever it is, it’s Definitely a strange place. It looks too elaborate for dinnerware, such as something to hold vinegar or oil.

Please see item 5540 in photos from Wellner catalog, described as a Bierwärmer mit Ständer. The item differs just very slightly,probably to different year or later model but there you have it. Not sure what heating source would be used inside then secured with screw top.
This item is displayed alongside chiller buckets for wines etc so guess this is to have your beer at room temp...

Before I found it in catalog I was beginning to think maybe it was a movie prop and would have to start watching Indiana Jones again LOL[emoji846].

James, They do still make them (see pic above Erich's post). They're $23 on amazon. I can't imagine wanting to make my beer warm though.
