What is also ignored is the fact that there could easily have been more than one maker of these plaques. Nobody has claimed that the plaque illustrated in the book is marked as "Ges Gesch." This would account for the change in the mounting holes. Somthing like this with such a generic slogan could not be design patented.

I bought an example a number of years ago, and I can attest that it is magnetic and die struck. There is even an enamel coating on the reverse. It too measures 90mm, the same size as the one in the book. The quality is excellent. If these are repros, where are the others, these should be available at all major shows on demand? The fact that most collectors have not handled them, speaks for itself.

I would hope that Mr. Saris could add his opinion on the topic.
    Ummm

      Great!

The Frei Durch is at issue.

Next time you are at a show, take some pictures and please post them.

Not really, but better than nothing.

Then by all means don’t bother.

You don’t need no stinking evidence!

First off, thank you to everyone who was able to shine some light on these pieces.

Second, just to add my 2 cents into this debate:

Both pieces came together from an old collection (1970s-1990s) along with a large number of other items. Believe me when I say, it was a Uhaul truck full of stuff (mostly paper and US but a good percentage of WW1 German mixed in with some WW2 German). And I will admit there was a mix of mostly good to some bad

I am not an expert in German enamel, hence why I posted these for review.

Both sides of the argument regarding the Frei Durch bring up valid points.

I will say this though, not commenting on the originality of my piece, but just in general:

I have been going to shows for YEARS. I have attended well over 100 shows at this point and I have yet to see another example, whether it be original or fake.

Just something to keep in mind. Thank you again everyone.

I stand by my original statement on the 2 signs.
                1 is textbook made
                1 is a reproduction
But to ask opinions from people that actually know about them
                And argue the point
                Is counter constructive.

The only one I could find on google. Similar back to mine. If the assessment on the thread is correct, this one would be fake as well I assume?

                    Yes
It is. Probably why it is still for sale
And why Jeff doesn’t show the back of it.
                    Looks new
                    Because it is.

                      Matt, fake news!

The posting for the Frie Durch is very clear "Reference only (SOLD or NOT FOR SALE)."

                      What sir is your problem?

Come on NY, if our resident expert Matt is correct, and we know he is correct because he does not need no stinking evidence to support his opinion, you must have missed all of the fake Frie Durch at these 100+ shows, because per Matt you should have been tripping over them in the aisles of the show!

                        Right?

I used the reference book that I own, and have read, as my proof.
                          Granted, it’s not 100%
But their are also others that commented on it also
                          That match my opinion
If you could read Gary, maybe you would understand.
                          And another thing
You don’t own the sign in question
Nor do you have any idea about it
So you look like a troll
                          With your halfwit comments
Everyone that commented gave him solid advice on his item
                          Well
Other than you, yer a troll

At least I can write a cogent and understandable sentence.

It is obvious that you have never even handled a Frei Dutch.

                            Yet you’re an expert.

Still think the Frei Durch in the link is for sale? Any comment on your inability to read?

                            What a joke.

There was one on Jeff's site
There was one on the Collector's Guild site
There was one in this older WAF thread, which is also featured here showing the reverse...

These are the only ones I recall seeing online in the last 10+ years...
