    Eagle and wreath set mystery....

And here is another one for you to determine. An eagle and wreath set in what I would call a copper tone, any idea what it is?
    Thanks,
    Harry

They could have been polished enough to lose their silvered finish--some finishes require a layer of copper upon which to be applied.

      Hi Harry,

Both the eagle and the wreath are found in either silver or gold colour and, as Erich mentions, some "gold looking" insignia can be silver with the silver worn off or polished as many of these have a copper plated surface or cupal (copper layer over aluminum core). Judging from your picts there may be traces of silver on the bird (could also be dirt or a polishing compound residue like Silvo or brasso) but I dont see any residue on the wreath

The key point here though (wether cleaned or not) is that this is not a true set. The eagle is the last political version (note RZM mark on the back) worn by NSDAP (gold colour eagle) or SA & other party organisations (silver colour eagle) while the wreath is of the type worn on Wehrmacht (Heer and KM) caps (gold or silver depending on application) Attached are picts of the matched sets

      Best regards

      JC
