DAF shoulder boards from review

Purchased off the Estand. RZM tag remnants present on two. No matched sets, but they do appear to have been issued.

I bought these as part of my current shoulder board kick. Anyone have opinions on them?

The colour of the cog wheel and the numbers should match. Either all gold or all silver no mixing of colours. On my Werkscharen tunic, pictured in a thread below this one, only the shoulder board wore on the right shoulder has an RZM tag so a board without an RZM tag should be ok. The blue piping on the boards indicate the political level; Light blue is for Ortsvaltung and Betreib. All boards should have a cog wheel on them. Administrative personnel wore only a cog wheel and no numbers.

Thanks very much for your knowledge and time on this. I noticed two things with regard to the "two tone" appearance of two of the boards:

One is that it appears that the numbers that are gold in appearance may in fact be tarnished silver. I looked at them under a loupe and I can't tell if it's gold paint flaking off exposing silver underneath, or silver that has oxidized over time.

The other is that the only numbers that have this discoloration are a different font than the others (pictures posted to illustrate this). They are also of a flatter (thinner) construction.

Additionally, the "197" board that is missing the Cog wheel has a tell-tale ring where the Cog once was, so that makes sense by way of your explanation.

Again, much appreciated and I welcome any other comments you would have here.

I would say that the letters that look gold in the pictures are actually gold. The pins that hold them to the boards certainly look gold to me. As for the gold and silver numbers being of a different design? Because they do not match the colour of the cog wheel I would suspect that they were added at some point by a previous owner. They would not normally have been worn on a tunic in this fashion.
I should mention that when gold insignia is worn on the shoulder boards all buttons, belt ramps etc are also gold. You can see this readily if you look at my thread on my Werkscharen tunic.

The textbook DAF numbers are the Aluminum ones with the cross hatch pattern matching the DAF gear interiors.

The "gold" numbers look to be worn Heer silver numbers with silver remaining only in the recesses. Could have been period done or post war restorations. Check for extra holes in the cloth.

At least that's what it looks like to me.
