The silver grade of the BDM Clasp is VERY hard to find as an original. I have an original with the award certificate and book tha was numbered below 500 dated late 1943, so any silver clasps with a serial number over 4 digits is a doctored up bronze one

Yes, over four digits is indeed impossible as shown some years ago over on the HJ forum where holder documentation for BDM silver badges with the award serials 2287 and 3849 (both awarded in 1944) was found. Just as an aside there is also a BDM silver serial 7529 over there albeit without documentation. It shows genuine wear and is very unlikely to be a doctored bronze but I have no doubt that these exist.

There is an interesting old thread on the same forum where they discussed the reasons for why so few of the BDM silver were awarded.
