    Wellner silver fork

    Hey Guys,

    Can anyone please advise who this fork could've possibly belonged to? Silver plated made by the famous Wellner company.
    Unfortunately not many clues, but maybe someone here has one or two in their collection.

      I don't recall seeing this pattern previously. That said, I checked James Yannes' work titled "The Encyclopedia of Third Reich Tableware," Trafford Publishing 2013, and while he does not show an identical example of this piece, he does include a spoon bearing a very similar engraving of a Wehrmacht-style eagle and swastika, though his example includes "1944" above the eagle and "D.H." below it, and the silverware pattern is quite different from your plated piece by Wellner. Yannes' description of his example reads: "Teaspoon: "1944" over 'Eagle' looking to his left over D.H. (Deutsches Heer -- German Army). Marked with Rm. 800 [solid silver], 'N' for Bayer, Silberbestedkfabrik, Krumbach i. Bayern. Although marked with the D.H., the eagle is a Partei eagle (looking left), that, with the 1944 date would indicate some type of award or commemorative, possibly to an Army veteran working in the Partei organization."

      I disagree with Jim Yannes that the eagle shown in both his and your example is representative of purely a political origin; I have seen many examples of this style of eagle and swastika used by both Wehrmacht and Political organizations.

        I don't have the Yannes book (not enough period documentation in it for me), but this reminds me of a ca. 1935 Army trumpet banner eagle.

          Hi Gentlemen,
          Thank you for taking the time to answer! Its greatly appreciated. I hope someone eventually does recognise this but I think its a long shot. But none the less its a very nice piece and will look good in my silverware display.
