    Berghof tablecloth, revisited

A few years back, I shared photos here of a tablecloth I own which was taken from the Berghof by a member of the 693rd Field Artillery Bn attached to the US 3rd Infantry Division.

I was lucky enough to find a photo of the exact tablecloth in use in the Berghof's Great Hall, and some of you may have seen it when I exhibited it as part of a larger display at the 2014 Max Show.

Here it is, along with the period photo:

Earlier this year, I came across the colorization work of Marina Amaral – and decided to have my original period photo colorized. Like a lot of collectors, I'm not normally a huge fan of period colorized photos, but her work is pretty incredible.

Well, yesterday the finished product came through and I wanted to share it with you guys first. I had to provide Marina color references for things like the carpet, chairs, chinaware and even the tapestry, and I think she did a great job.

To Hitler's right is Fritz Klingenberg (1912-1945) receiving his Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in May 1941. You can actually see his Knights Cross case on the table next to him.

What a piece of history, the stories that it could tell...amazing.

I agree: quite an historic artifact and occasion! To Hitler's left is his chief adjutant, Julius Schaub, and the tapestry behind them hides the projector room portals for showing films at the Berghof in the evening. A great piece!

Interesting find ! ...I wonder where that tapestry behind them has ended up ( and what it depicts) ?

I believe that both tapestries were produced by the Gobelins Manufactory in Paris -- the one covering the movie projector window seen in note #2 below and the one on the opposite wall, hanging above the Bechstein grand piano, where films were projected -- which is still in operation today. Perhaps others here may know where these two colorful hangings are today?
