Would anyone be able to tell if this badge numbered 14303 is researchable?
    Thanks!

        Thanks Everyone!
I will get pictures when I can, I had a home invasion and my photographic area is a mess right now. But, I will when I can.
On the badge, I bought it as a fake for nothing. I knew it looked good so I showed it to several of the best guys at the SOS on this badge. One person in particular told me his feelings. He felt during the period it was taken apart, the old number removed, a new number applied and reassembled. For several reasons I feel it actually does have a chance of having been period changed. But, "find a believer" is what I have always said about such pieces. That is unless the font is known on other 100% examples. Worst case, I have a gorgeous large GPB for almost no expense. I spent more money on food then I did for the badge!
        Thank you all!

          Oooooooooooooooo Sounds juicy Bob!!!

Great story too. Just one question.......................

If it is indeed original, and belonged to Himmler, am I too old for you to adopt me??

Looking forward to seeing this badge.

          Best wishes,

          Mat J

Can you tell us whether this is a large or a small GPB? If a small one, whether it is a Deschler or a Fuess-marked piece?

I'm not sure what you mean that one of the collectors who you showed this badge to thought "it was taken apart, the old number removed, a new number applied and reassembled." Indeed there are original GPBs that had been returned to the factory when the original holders had lost their permission to wear those badges for some reason, and such badges were renumbered and issued to new awardees. What I'm not sure of is your saying that this badge "was taken apart"...? Normally that was not necessary when a GPB had it's number removed and a new number stamped onto it.

Looking forward to hearing and seeing more on this piece! Cheers,

                Br. James

                  Hi!
It is a large Deschler badge, trust me, I would almost prefer a untraceable name to Himmler. Especially under the circumstances of the badge having been renumbered.
I have had renumbered badges before, this one was done in a much better or more professional manner and resurfaced on the back side.
I can't give you much more detail since I don't know but.... I believe it but no-one else may ever believe it. Who knows, will be an interesting discussion piece when I can get pics.
Even if everyone feels the number is wrong and I grind it off, it was still a great deal!!!! I never liked Himmler, I really wish it was a different name!
                  Thanks!

Thanks very much for the further details, Bob. Like you, I look forward to seeing this one when you can send pix.

As a GPB student for some decades, I can say that this field of collecting is NOT about liking the persons whose badges I hold, for I have NO affinity for anyone whose artifacts I have collected over more than 50 years! But this is one of the most fascinating periods in history that I can imagine and it has always held an attraction for me. So take heart, my friend, and lets hope that this IS one of the GPBs awarded to Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler; our hobby will be the better for knowing that this piece still exists and that it is available to be seen here on WAF!

                    Cheers,

                    Br. James

Agreed, even if the numbers are post-war put, no need to grind them off!

                        Br. James,
I should define my statement a bit better, not that I am a huge fan of HH. In this case the biggest reason I do not like his name associated with this badge is, it will make more skepticism which I understand. My suspicion is, "right" or not it will be tough for anyone to believe it. I am OK either way, I like the badge and am happy keeping it. I think a no-body would be easier to accept.
Thanks and I will get pics asap.
