Eagle plaque/sign opinions please

An identification request this comes directly from a Canadian Intelligence Corp Veterans estate, who were involved in the surrendering efforts of government buildings at the end of the war.....he never shared information of his time in Germany as it bothered him....was not a 'collector' and his material was kept in storage for over 70 years so want to be sure of a good review of the piece...any further photos required can be arranged...

Further to the above, it is approx. 4 1'2 x 6 1/2 inches with 3 holes (mounting to...?)
Paint appears old, some crackling in couple spots...

It seems like a cast of an Afrika Korps pith shield?
(although the bottom tip of the shield looks sharper in the one you posted)

It's larger and the sculpt is quite different than the pith helmet shield. Can you tell what sort of metal it's made from? I don't see anything that would make me doubt that it's a period piece and would suspect it may have been mounted to a wood backing as a decorative plaque.
