Does this fit together? PL uniform

    Hi,
I wounder if this pre39 shirt fit together with this cord breeches. They have an SA tag inside and are mint like the shirt. Or would a normal PL breeches go with this like to be worn with the tunics?
    Thanks for any help!

That looks like a Model 39 political brownshirt with earlier insignia. And you would want to go with political leader breeches rather than SA.

I agree with Erich that the breeches should be PL-issue and not SA for this uniform. The tabs on this Traditions Brown Shirt are from the pre-1939 regulations, though I don't know what Erich is referring to when he says that "That looks like a Model 39 political brownshirt..."

The PL brownshirts were slightly redesigned in 1939--instead of metal belt hooks there were cloth belt loops at the waistband. They also included a collar liner and a cloth belt.

          Thanks!
I will get some nice PL pants for it.
I think I understand Erich: This type of jacket has belt Loops and not the hooks as the later jackets have. But it carries 2nd type insignia and should therefore wear 3rd Kind -right?

Thanks very much for that historical detail, Erich; very helpful!

We also know that, when the regs changed, not everyone rushed out and ordered a new uniform hat or shirt or belt; photos testify to the ongoing use of pre-issued articles well after the regs were revised. This could be an example of such usage...no? (A photo of Goebbels comes to mind which was taken in the early 1940s during a trip he made outside of Germany...and he wore a PL peaked cap in the pre-1939 revision style. I'm sure this was not the only time a very high-level personage did so!)

                Cheers,

                Br. James

That's correct except that the metal belt hooks were used pre-1939 so are earlier. Otherwise, exactly.

                    Hi Dirk,

"has anyone ever seen that matching Cloth belt??"

I don't think Erich meant that there was an actual cloth belt that was worn with this Brown Shirt when he said: "...instead of metal belt hooks there were cloth belt loops at the waistband." The belt worn with this Brown Shirt was the leather belt with buckle.

I've only seen one--it was made of twill fabric exactly matching that of the shirt, and had a buckle covered in matching twill fabric. I think there was a thread about the set here-- maybe 10 years ago.
