Gold Party Badge - authentication and owner ID

    Gold Party Badge - authentication and owner ID

    So a friend of mine has come across this Party Badge in gold, and has had a coin dealer (in Houston) look it over, declare it original, and made him an offer on it. I told him here was the place to have someone more familiar w/these badges to say yea or nay on whether it is authentic or not. Also, if it is a real badge, is there any list of known party member's numbers out there? Which is to ask "who was member 1020"?
    And I'll add, I've never seen a clasp like this on ANY party badge.

    It's original but it looks like the gold finish is mostly gone all the way down to the brass base metal.

        Well I'm astonished.... in looking at Maerz and JRivett's fancy book of the subject (I have a copy) they hardly touch on the topic of the gold badge and have not one, lest I missed it, reference/pic of this sort of clasp. The gold finish is/looks intact, just antiqued/burnished as original from the manufacturer. This is something I'm very familiar with as by trade, I'm a manufacturing jeweler. 40+ years of it. It's a nice looking badge. Does the surface of the reverse look like others of this design i.e. the fancy vertical pinback type like this?, soft slightly rounded edges? I ask as it looks like the reverse was finished w/a fine wire brush before plating... do others like this look the same way?, or is the back much smoother; more uniform in finish? Many awards/medal ARE finished w/a brush... I'm just asking about this badge, and this manufacturer. And by the by, who DID make this one??

                Jo's book is dealing with the PARTY badge (and its "relatives" as "Nun erst recht"...) as a sign for membership but NOT with the "Golden Party Badge" as an award. There is a good book dealing with this subject from PATZWALL.

                  To answer your other questions. Dedicated collectors have worked to assemble lists of GPB (Gold Party Badges) from various sources of data. No central list of these awards has been discovered in any of the captured German records in archives. I do not have 1020 on my list. The clasp on this 30mm badge is the common form found for wear on uniforms. The other factory issued method of attachment is the horizontal safety pin attachment. There are of course other "jeweler" created versions for more secure attachment.

                  The Patzwall book deals with the honorary award of these badges by Hitler, so it is not that helpful for the standard issues.                       Hi Mitch,

                      As our colleagues here have already assured you, this is an original example of the large GPB produced for uniform wear; the broad pin on the reverse is known as "the Military Pin" and was produced for wear on uniforms by way of two thread loops through which the pin was placed. The maker of this badge was the Munich jeweler named Deschler und Sohn -- the only maker of the GPB in this size. The person awarded with this badge was Michael Gerstner, who was a Kreisleiter in the NSDAP, an SA-Oberführer and a Member of the Reichstag.

                      Hope this is helpful. Congratulations on a fine example of this early and rare badge.

                          A Beautiful and Original 30mm (Large) Deschler and Söhne Goldenes Partei Abzeichen with Military (desired) Pin and Catch, standard Ges. Gesch. in cartouche, with a Wonderful Low serial number of #1020....quite a find! Congratulations.
